Hide My Ass! Problems on Windows 10
After a prolonged test with HMA-VPN on Windows 10 we never got it working.
People use HMA-VPN to access sites which are blocked by their governments, ISP's, work environment and others. Encrypting your web connection by using a VPN service is extremely useful. A VPN enables you to break out of restrictive networks, hide your content from network administrators and eavesdroppers, and even unlock Netflix and Pandora content that is otherwise blocked in your country.
We have used HMA (Hide-My-Ass!) - It did work well on Windows 7 - with great results over the years with Windows XP, Windows 7 & 8 and Linux. During the glory day of Windows 7, HMA worked well. However with the release of Windows 10, connected via an Ethernet Router, we started to get all kinds of issues.
Despite being connected to HMA using a default IP we were still being recogniced by some ISP's who were blocking content for instance of Vimeo or demonstration video's of Joomla in websites using the JW-Player.
We also had issues connecting to Google when connected through the HMA-VPN. Gmail blocked any connection to any account. They were never able to provide the needed support to get us up and running with Windows 10.
We asked multiple times for support from HMA and they were initial great in providing support. However when it came to their refund policy (we asked since it did not work with Windows 10) they pointed to "renewal" which as per terms is not a 'refundable" purchase.
So it remains simple no win/win: Chargeback request with CC-Company which will be granted for reasons of "non-received goods as ordered" + a US$ 20 Paypal penalty for HMA's Privax Ltd.
EDIT/UPDATE 02-09-15: After filing a PP complain in the PP resolution Centre Privax Ltd has chosen to refund the money via PP upon receiving the escalation.
We have chosen "Tunnelbear" after this event and it works perfectly well with Windows 10 and is fast and even lots cheaper than 'HMA'
